Management Tip: What Are Today’s Employees Looking For?
May 1, 2020
What are the expectations of today’s employees?
They are looking for a boss who is approachable, honest, trustworthy, personable, and has a positive attitude. They also want someone who is organized, knows how to lead and direct a team, and is contributing. Remember- a leader’s job is not to do the job, but to create the environment where the work can be done. As a leader are you contributing by providing all of the tools, training, and resources necessary to contribute to your employee’s success?
Today’s employees also want acknowledgement, recognition, and appreciation. When is the last time you thanked your staff just for doing their job? A little appreciation and acknowledgement will go a long way. Maybe you order in lunch to thank them, or even just a simple thank you or text message saying “hey you did a great job today, thank you for what you bring to the team!” Employees today also want to know that they are capable of doing their jobs and have the authority to handle situations. Your employees should be empowered. When you step in and do their job for them it says to them that you don’t trust them to be able to do their job. Make sure your staff knows and understands that they are capable and empowered to handle their job.
