April 18, 2013
Hello technicians, gear heads, shop owners and everyone associated with the automotive aftermarket!
AVI will be holding a 2 day training event in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan during the Woodward Dream Cruise week when thousands of people come and drive their classic, exotic, and just plain crazy vehicles along the 10 mile strip on Woodward and everyone comes out with the lawn chairs to enjoy the show.
The training event will held at the Cranbrook Institute of Science on Thursday, Aug. 15 – Friday, Aug. 16. Katie and Paul can tell you more about the training classes. There is a full size Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton on display, attendees will have access to the science museum. Friday afternoon – Dream Cruise Eve – after the classes finish we will have a space in front of the Birmingham Valvoline Quick Lube to watch the cruise with authentic Polish food catered from Polonia’s in Hamtramck, a local favorite featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show No Reservations.
Whoohoo!
Here is some basic info on the Dream Cruise:
In August 1995, Nelson House and a group of volunteers looked to relive and recreate the nostalgic heydays of the 50s and 60s, when youth, music and Motor City steel roamed Woodward Avenue, America’s first highway. That year, 250,000 people participated—nearly ten times the number expected. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, the Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe—from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the former Soviet Union. North American cruisers from California, Georgia, Canada and all points in between caravan to Metro Detroit to participate in what has become, for many, an annual rite of summer.
