The Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC) has grown by leaps and bounds since its creation in 1984. This council is made up of some of the most motivated automotive leaders in the nation from all walks of life that have dedicated themselves to the ATMC and their goal of improving the overall quality of training in the automotive industry. Their success has come from the diversity of its members and with numbers comes information and knowledge.

ATMC Announces New Officers and Directors for 2014

The Automotive Training Managers Council has announced its Officers and Directors for the year 2014. Darrell Rowe, Director of Education and Development for Bridgestone Retail Operations was elected as Board Chair, with Holly Gerke, Manager of Technical Training for Penske Truck Leasing serving as Vice Chair. Michael Loth, Director Technical Service and Support for Bosch was elected as Treasurer, with Tim Zilke, President and CEO of ASE serving as Secretary. Bobby Bassett, Director of North American Training for Gates Corporation assumes the role of Past Chair.
Also announced were three new Directors elected to the Board: Chris Chesney, Senior Director, Professional Markets for CARQUEST Technical Institute; Ron Kato. Technical Training Manager, Toyota Motors Sales USA, and John Prosser, Senior Manager, Technical Training Operations, American Honda Motor Company. They join current Directors: Rod Boyes, President, Melior Inc.; Steve Lee, Senior Corporate Director of Product Development, Lincoln Educational Services; and Bill Sapielak, Automotive Business Development Manager, Adayana.
“The strength of our organization is in the diversity of our membership,” said Dave Milne, ATMC President. “The outstanding advice and support that this group brings to their leadership role is indicative of their commitment to improving the quality of training for the entire industry. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board members for their service over the years,” Milne continued. Stepping down from the Board are Byron Morgan, Morgan Consultant Service, John Saia, Toyota Motor Sales USA, and Rich Whittier (deceased), Chrysler LLC.

ATMC Honors National Excellence in Training Award Winners at Las Vegas Reception

Over 250 supporters of training attended the ATMC reception during the AAPEX and SEMA shows the first week of November to network and join the Council in honoring the 2013 recipients of the ATMC National Excellence in Training Awards.

Award recipients include Bridgestone Retail Operations, CCAR, KPA. NAFTC, NAPA AUTO PARTS, NAPA AUTOTECH, and Penske Truck Leasing. For more information on the winners see the AWARDS link on the ATMC web site www.atmc.org

Several Industry Firms Achieve CASE Accreditation in 2013

The CASE program offers an ASE accreditation of providers of training for working technicians. The Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC) will evaluate the training providers’ process of developing and delivering training and then recommend accreditation as an ASE Accredited Training Provider of Continuing Automotive Service Education (CASE).
Completeing the review process and achieving accreditation for the first time are: The Natural Gas Vehicle Institute; Mr. Lube Canada; Valvoline Instant Oil Change; and Wurth Academy USA. In addition, Volvo Trucks Academy is in the final stages of their review process.
The following companies have renewed their accreditation this year: BP Global Fuels Technology; EAST Training; Lew Kinney and Associates; Lexus Technical Training; NAPA Institute of Automotive Technology; Old Dominion Freight Lines; and Toyota Technical Training.

Save These Dates!

The 2014 ATMC Annual Conference will be April 7-9 at the Emory Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia. New for this coming year, the conference will lead off Monday morning with the OE forum. The opening reception will be Monday evening and the conference will wrap up by noon on Wednesday.
