  • LBT-408 Intro to Electricity
This is part one of our three-part series covering an all-inclusive start to finish course on electricity.  In this course we start from square one with how voltage is created inside a battery, we cover electron flow, ohms, and wattage laws, how to effectively use a DVOM to perform various electrical tests including the ever-important voltage drop test.  We then move into wiring schematics, starting, and charging systems including smart charging systems and their diagnostic procedures.  If you are an educator, you will be pleased to know that this course has been developed with instructor materials such as power points, activity worksheets, tests, and lesson plans.
    Topics Covered:

    • Battery Ratings
    • Electrical Circuits
    • Live Circuit Testing
    • Measuring Voltage
    • Circuit Boards
    • Charging System Fundamentals
    • Abbreviations
    • Wiring Schematics

    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand atomic theory as it relates to electricity and how batteries work
    • Understand how to competently use a digital multimeter to test voltage, resistance, and amperage
    • Demonstrate how to use a multimeter to measure voltage drops
    • Interpret simple wiring schematics
    • Understand simple starting and charging circuits

    Runtime: 283 minutes

  • LBT-409 Hybrid and EV Basics
This course covers basic hybrid knowledge and testing principles.  This is part two of our three-part series covering an all-inclusive start to finish class on electricity.  This section delves into hybrid statistics, safety procedures, testing procedures, and common pattern failures.  This section gets the technicians ready for our final part of the electric drive vehicles section of the course.
    Topics Covered:

    • Introduction to Hybrid Electric Vehicles
    • Hybrid Electric Vehicle Systems
    • Maintenance Procedures
    • Service and Testing Procedures

    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the basics of hybrid and electric drive vehicle terminology
    • Understand operation and testing procedures
    • Understand the necessary safety devices, tooling, and procedures when working on a hybrid vehicle

    Runtime: 219 minutes

  • LBT-410 HV Hands On with EV
In this course, AVI’s instructor walks the student through the practical ins and outs of low- and high-voltage electricity theory through lecture and examination of electric vehicle components. The Instructor shows the proper testing and servicing procedures involved with traditional 12 volt systems and the newer high voltage components found in electric vehicles. High voltage components covered in this course include the HV battery pack, inverter assembly, converter assembly, electric air conditioning compressor, and Motor generators 1 and 2. A heavy emphasis will be placed on safety as well as real-world diagnostic testing and repair procedures. This course is ideal for both the new student looking to learn about basic electrical theory and the more advanced technician seeking knowledge on high-voltage systems in modern electric vehicles.
    Topics Covered:

    • How a battery works
    • Classifications, configurations, and types of batteries that exist today
    • Electrical terminology
    • Ohms Law
    • Basic electrical components
    • Standard & smart charging systems operation

    Course Objectives:

After participating in this course, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamental theories of electricity and electrical current
    • Describe how to care for batteries
    • Explain Alternating Current (AC) vs. Direct Current (DC)
    • Underline the tools for working with electricity
    • Outline electrical circuits and switches
    • Generalize how fuses operate
    • Contrast series and parallel circuits
    • Illustrate the operation of multimeters
    • Communicate on how to test electric circuits
    • Relate how vehicle charging systems work
    • Describe standard charging system components
