- 99.9% of early bulb failures in aftermarket applications are not the fault of the bulb itself.
- Failure can be due to several factors, including:
- Voltage surges in the vehicle that are larger than the filament is designed to handle (over-voltage).
- If the bulb receives an impact or jolt while hot, it can cause direct damage to the bulb.
- Bulbs do experience end of life failure – heating and cooling cycles cause the coils of the filament to become pitted and eventually break in two.
- Dropping the bulb can cause the filament to break or result in early bulb failure.
- Dropping can crack the bulb and cause the gas fill mixture to leak out. This is evident by a white color in the glass (fast leak) or black color in the glass (slow leak).
