Tech Tip: Glow Plug Testing on a Ford 6.0 Power Stroke

When only one glow plug is not working properly, it can cause the system either to behave erratically or not start at all. Whether it is a single defective glow plug or a group of plugs, critical testing is not initially done with the Ford IDS but rather testing is done with low and high amp probes. Ron also conducts a special electrical glow plug test that is done with the IDS to check the connection between the glow plug control relay module and the glow plugs themselves. It is important to remember that the plugs on the 6.0 should initially pull a combined 170 to 180 amps.
