Andy Trotta from AVI presents a tech tip on hybrid/EV HVAC diagnostics. While the HVAC system itself changes little post-compressor, the key difference lies in the oils. We must use POE or NG100, not PAG oil or PAG-based UV dye. For more, check out our course on high-voltage compressors.
To diagnose HVAC system leaks, compatible UV dyes (often pre-installed in refrigerants like Honeywell 1234YF) can be used. Along with a carbon or refrigerant-based “sniffer” leak detector, a UV light and special filter lenses allow for visual detection of the dye, pinpointing leaks. When using UV dye, ensure it’s compatible with hybrid systems using POE or NG 100 oils, which are less conductive.
