5.9 Cummins Diesel Diagnostics

December 15, 2009

Automotive Video has released a long awaited 5.9 Dodge Cummins diesel training program on DVD. This class with Dave Scaler will help diesel technicians who are interested in learning more about the Cummins system and gas technicians who would like to get into diesel diagnostics and repair. The program covers complete system operation, testing and diagnostics of one of the easiest diesel systems to work on.

With the information contained in this class, you will be able to diagnose any 5.9 Dodge Cummins from 2002 to 2009 in 15 minutes or less. Dave explains fuel system analysis with complete low pressure diagnosis. He covers the high pressure side of the fuel system including the common rail, connector tubes and injector diagnosis. The program explains all the sensor inputs on the vehicle, boost and the intake side of the system including turbo chargers and intercoolers.

Dave provides troubleshooting tips including what to do when all the controllers do not talk to each other. The program covers multiplex bus systems and provides the skills to diagnose multiplex bus issues in less than two minutes. The PCI bus system is covered, which is the system Chrysler uses to interface multiple controllers together. When those systems go down a scanner cannot communicate with the system.

This video teaches you how to diagnose all these systems very quickly. Dave shows you how to diagnose not only the PCI bus system but also the CAN systems that are used in the newer models. The program uses the OTC Genisys, Snap-On Modis and OEM scanner for diagnostics and shows you how to diagnose Cummins with any generic or OEM scan tool.
