What Technicians Are Saying About AVI's Training

Training Topics

Bosch Hybrid/EV Phase 3: Mastering Advanced HV Systems And Diagnostics With a Focus on Tesla

Instructor

Tom Rayk

Elevate your expertise in electric and hybrid vehicles with our immersive, hands-on training course designed for automotive professionals. This comprehensive program takes you deep into the heart of HEV technology, where you’ll master the critical components that power modern vehicles. Gain a solid grasp of inverter operations and the role of Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), while honing your skills in analyzing voltage and amperage waveforms. You’ll also learn to diagnose DC-DC converters with confidence, distinguish between buck and boost operations, and perform essential tests on high voltage systems—all crucial for ensuring vehicle safety and performance but we don’t stop there. This course also provides in-depth training on three-phase automotive motors, from identifying every motor component to advanced diagnostics. You’ll learn to differentiate between permanent magnet and induction motors, evaluate motor windings, and tackle motor and bearing failures with ease. Plus, explore how these motors interact with gear trains to ensure seamless vehicle operation.
By the end of this course, you’ll be equipped with expert-level skills to troubleshoot and maintain the critical electronics and motors that drive today’s cutting-edge automotive technology. Don’t miss this opportunity to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving world of vehicle electrification.

Drivability Diagnostics with Launch Scan Tools

Instructor

To Be Announced

Elevate your diagnostic skills with our 3-Day Scan Tool Diagnostics Class designed for hands-on, real-world learning using the Launch Throttle 3 scan tool. This program teaches techniques that apply to any modern scanner while guiding technicians through drivability challenges, battery and charging system testing, CAN and CAN FD diagnostics, secure gateway navigation, and effective use of bi-directional controls. You’ll learn how to quickly identify intermittent problems using recording and graphing functions, gain a solid introduction to scope use, interpret ignition patterns, diagnose turbo engine misfires, and test modern EVAP and GDI systems. Each attendee participates in hands-on challenges that sharpen diagnostic accuracy and improve workflow. The class also covers carbon-related concerns, scanner tech support tips, and current engine issues every technician should be aware of. Training concludes with an online graded test and a certificate of completion, giving technicians the confidence to tackle today’s most complex vehicle diagnostics.

Electrical Fundamentals

Instructor

To Be Announced

This 3-day hands-on workshop equips entry-level teammates with the foundational skills needed to grow into A-level technicians. Through hands-on training with electrical testing aids and guided exercises using provided testing boards, participants will develop a strong understanding of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe application procedures while building confidence in using a multimeter and its various functions. The course guides them in reading and interpreting schematic diagrams and performing real-world testing, teaching them how to apply results effectively within a diagnostic strategy. As their skills progress, they will gain a clear understanding of the advantages of voltage drop testing over open-circuit resistance testing, learn how to apply Ohm’s Law to identify component-level failures and recognize its limitations, and use core electrical theory to accurately diagnose faults at the component level.

Heavy Duty Air Brake Operation & Diagnosis Workshop

Instructor

Toj Wallace

This 3 day, hands-on training goes into great technical detail covering the components in an air brake system. Participants will assemble an airbrake system that includes all of the components found on HD vehicles.  Information on components such as wheel speed sensors and tone wheels as well as the circuits involved in transmitting that data to the controller will be covered. Participants will learn safe service procedures including the importance of proper adjustments.
